The pictures above portray a ‘challenge’ which takes place as part of the traditional Māori welcome. The warrior assesses the situation to determine whether the visitors come in peace or not. He runs forth, jumps about, and swings his staff about. He lays an offering before the visitors. By picking up the offering, they signify that the visit is peaceful. On seeing this, the elderly woman calls to the visitors and beckons them onto the village fore-court.

Traditional Conference 2008 – Feedback from Evaluation Questionnaire’s

Many thanks to those delegates who took the time to give us feedback on the conference; this will help us to improve future conferences. The graphs below are an indication of the feedback that was received from the conference evaluation questionnaire.

Delegates were highly satisfied across all organisational aspects of the conference

It was pleasing to note that the majority of delegates that responded to the questionnaire found the conference a very interesting and valuable experience, with nobody finding it an uninteresting experience.

From the cross section received, we can see that the largest groups at the conference were from University organisations, the Public sector and ‘Other’.

Feedback received from delegates

“We really got a lot from your conference and being able to network with other indigenous researchers from all walks of life was a real plus.”

“It was indeed a privilege to present at this conference and to have access to such informed and inspiring korero. We send our thanks and are humbled by the experience”

“…I have been to many conferences but none that displayed the scope of knowledge, enthusiasm, beauty, and community demonstrated there. The presentations were wholeheartedly inspirational, as were the people that presented them…”
